John Blewett III Memorial 76

John Blewett and Jimmy Blewett at New Smyrna Speedway in 2007

The John Blewett III Memorial 76 was created for the 2008 New Smyrna Speedway’s World Series event after Blewett lost his life during a NASCAR Modified Tour race at Thompson Speedway the previous summer.

The New Jersey based Blewett had been competing on the Modified Tour for a decade, with wins at Thompson Speedway (1), Stafford Speedway (3) and New Hampshire Motor Speedway (4). He was a 3-time winner at New Smyrna, including 2 at the 2007 event.

Fittingly enough, John’s younger brother Jimmy won the inaugural race. Matt Hirschman has won a record 5 JBIII 76 races. Ron Silk, Eric Goodale and Ryan Preece have each won twice. Other New Englanders who have won the race include Ted Christopher, Woody Pitkat and Anthony Nocella.
