Steve Bird a.k.a. Birdie

Steve Bird started out as a crew man for ‘The Traveling Man’ Pete Fiandaca in the 1970’s. He later would crew for Ron Bouchard during his NASCAR Cup Series win at Talladega Speedway in 1981.

It was on the NASCAR Busch Grand National (now Xfinity) Series that Bird had his greatest successes. First with rising star Rob Moroso, who as a 19-year old won twice on the series and finished runner up to the championship. In 1989, the won 4 races and earned 7 pole awards enroute to the Busch Grand National Series Championship.

“Birdie” spent the 1990 season with Steve Grissom (3 wins) who finished 3rd in points, and then the 1991 season with Kenny Wallace (2 wins) who finished runner-up to the title. In 1995, he crewed for Johnny Benson Jr, who scored 2 wins and the series title. The next year, Bird won his 3rd series with Randy Lajoie behind the wheel.

He also scored a win on the 2005 Hooters Pro Cup Series with Jody Lavender as the driver.
