Ray Brown
Competitor
CLASS OF 2012 | Pioneers
Veterans Committee Selection
Ray Brown started his racing career in stock cars. He was the 1950 Modified Champion at Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, MA. The American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC), which was known more for sanctioning midget racing, briefly sanctioned a stock car class in 1953, which crowned Ray Brown their champion.
He returned to Riverside Park in 1955, ironically winning Rookie of the Year honors despite his previous success at the track. Ray, like many, credit this to confusion with the famed NY dirt driver Ray “Zero” Brown. Springfield, MA’s Ray Brown also frequented Rhythm Inn Speedway in Millers Falls, MA.
He was inducted into the NEAR Hall of Fame in a special Pioneers induction ceremony in 2012.
