Archie Blackadar started out as a flagman during the flathead coupe days working the starts from the middle of the track, as was custom at the time. Later he went on to be a part owner of the Northeastern and Catamount Speedways, both in Vermont.

Blackadar served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1950.

He worked at all the asphalt tracks in New England plus most of the dirt tracks in Vermont, New Hampshire and Quebec before 1960.

Archie then went on to work under Bob Sall as a NASCAR Steward for thirty years (1961-1991). He worked out of an office at the NASCAR headquarters in Daytona, FL from 1968-1993.
