Dave Darveau started racing at the Unity Raceway at the age of 16, winning the first race he ever entered. By 1955, at the age of 19, Dave had become the man to beat, winning 14 of 21 events on the way to his first track championship. By the mid 1960s, Dave had added 7 more Unity championships. In 1963, Dave won the Oilzum Trophy, the Governor’s Cup, and the Mid Season Championship at Unity.

In 1966, Dave qualified for the Modified 300 at Oxford Plains. Racing with an underpowered 301 ci, he followed Ed Flemke around for several laps, before a broken fan belt caused overheating, which took him out of the race. In 1971, Dave won the Beech Ridge A Class Season Championship.

Dave won the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Championship 3 times at Wiscasset Speedway (1976, 1978, 1984) and scored victories in 100 lap races at Unity in 1980, 81, and 82. In 1983, Darveau won nearly every extra distance race at Unity, taking down the track championship in the process.

Dave Darveau was inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Wiscasset Speedway Hall of Fame in 2020.
