Mike Scrivani with Hop Harrington

“Iron Mike” Mike Scrivani began racing with sprint cars in the 1930s. His cars were #100 and driven by Jimmy Green with much success. But when Scrivani was introduced to the midget cars, he couldn’t resist getting one.

Mike was also a charter member of the Northeast Midget Association (NEMA).  Jerry Russo drove his car in the very first NEMA race held at Seekonk Speedway in 1953. The tandem scored their first wins together at the old West Peabody (MA) Speedway.

Scrivani also had a briefly successful stint building modifieds. The first year he teamed with Leo Cleary and won Modified Championships at both Norwood Arena and Thompson Speedway in 1967.  In 1968, the won the championship again at Norwood. In 1969, Scrivani sold his M-2 to Dick Armstrong, who put Fred Schulz behind the wheel and won the Norwood championship again.

Scrivani would return to the midgets. He won two NEMA championships as a car owner. The first came with Butch Walsh as his driver in 1973. The second with Nokie Fornoro in 1981 when they only entered 12 of the 21 races on the schedule, but won 10 of them to win the championship.  In 1982, Fornoro won the ARDC Championship in Mike’s #21.

Dave Humphrey, Bert Brooks, Gene Bergin and Al Pillion are a few of the drivers who have won races driving Scrivani’s midget.

Mike Scrivani passed away on February 28, 1983.
