Boston native Harry Grant was one of the sport’s early stars. He was a big, burly guy which fit well in the primitive cars of the early 1900’s.

Harry raced from the early 1900’s to 1915. He competed in the Indianapolis 500 four straight years (1911-1915) with a career best 7th place finish in 1914.

He won Vanderbilt Cup road race on Long Island, NY in both 1909 and 1910. He also road raced in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Georgia, South Carolina and around the Boston area as well.

In 1915, he entered the Astor Cup at Sheep’s Head Bay’s 2-mile track with a board surface, which was opening it’s gates for the first time. Tragically, Harry crashed during the first practice session and was fatally burned. His body was returned to his native Boston to be buried.
