Joe Brady

Car Owner
CLASS OF 2008

Joe Brady has been a championship winning car owner for over 5 decades.  In that time, he’s given many young drivers their start in racing, including several who went onto success on the national level like Steve Park, Ted Christopher, Jimmy Spencer and Dick Trickle.   Joe built much of his own equipment throughout his career.

Leo Cleary won Joe his first championship in 1968 at the Norwood Arena.  Bob Santos won the 1971 Thompson championship in a Brady car, then won the Westboro championship in 1975. Bugsy Stevens stepped in and took down a Westboro championship in 1980, then won the Seekonk crown in ’81.

Joe Brady’s were a dominant force at World Series of Racing Championships at New Smyrna Speedway for over 2 decades. He won 10 Modified Championships there – 2 with Steve Park in 1992 & 1993 and 8 with Ted Christopher (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011)

Throughout his career, Joe competed against the top teams, and fielded competitive cars, despite operating with much smaller budgets and less sponsorship money than the high dollar cars he was competing against.  Joe had a knack for spotting talented drivers, and developing those drivers into winners.

Joe tragically lost his life on December 10, 2015 when he was struck by a DUI outside of his Christmas tree farm he operated. At the time, he was competing mostly on the Modified Racing Series and other select open modified races in southern New England with Ted Christopher. He was 71 years old.
