The personable racer Joe McNulty was known for taking car of the race car and being good on equipment. He was a force in southern New England in both modifieds and cut-downs during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
A native of Rhode Island, he established himself at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on the Connecticut shoreline where he scored 16 feature wins.
Over the course of his career, “Mac” also scored wins at Lonsdale Arena in R.I. and Seekonk Speedway & Norwood Arena in MA.
Later in his career, he drove the NASCAR circuit. He was also one of only a handful of New Englanders to visit victory lane at New Jersey’s Old Bridge Speedway.
Bertha Small‘s #23 and Slim Ross’ #222 were two of the car owners he drove for over the years. McNulty passed away in 1989.
