A one-time driver & noted racing artist, John Burgess was Boston bred & educated. His race car shop (building & selling midget racers) and his promotional prowess in the 1930’s sent New England racing in a new direction. Trained as a naval architect, he began racing at the start of the depression in New England Outlaw, AAA and IMCA action.

He moved to the building & selling of race cars & parts after hanging up the helmet. Involved with supercharges and jet engines for GE during & after World War II, Burgess later managed Briggs Cunningham Automotive Museum in Orange County, California until in closed in 1986. He also enjoyed painting, with many of his artwork depicting racing scenes from eras gone by. Burgess passed away in 1992.
