Roland Lapierre started his career at the old Lonsdale Sports Arena. His first race was the inaugural jalopy race in 1949 with the #439 coach. The next season, he changed his number to 134 after being the 134th car signed into the pits. He scored his first career win that season at Lonsdale.
A prolific competitor, he would go on to compete at over 25 tracks in New England, New Jersey, New York and Canada during this 26-year career. Lapierre won on both dirt & pavement during the 1950’s. In addition to Lonsdale, he scored victories at Beech Ridge Speedway, Medford Bowl, Norwood Arena, The Pines Speedway, Seekonk Speedway, Westboro Speedway and West Peabody Speedway. He would go on to drive for car owners Lenny Boehler, Sonny Koszela, Joe Brady and Bertha Small among others.
In the late 1960’s, he returned to his family owned #134 with his son Roland Jr now the mechanic skills behind the operation. They scored to wins at Norwood Arena during the 1968 season. He also memorably won the last NASCAR Modified race held at Norwood on October 4, 1969, leading every lap.
Roland Lapierre passed away in 1991.
