Fred Meeker was a Norwalk, CT native and a World War II Navy veteran who started out racing in midget schools held at Candlelight Stadium in Bridgeport, CT.

In 1953 he teamed up with car owner Fred Kernan and success soon followed. Meeker scored his first win at Lanham Speedway in MD, then won the very first NEMA race ever held on Memorial Day weekend at Seekonk Speedway in MA. He also won the first ARDC midget race.

He was a force in the old NASCAR Midget circuit, finished third in championship points in both 1953 & 1954 before winning back-to-back championships in 1955-1956 before retiring from competition to start a family.

Fred Meeker passed away in 2007.
