Competitor
CLASS OF 2010

George Savary started racing in the 1960s at Norwood Arena. George raced from 1971-1974 in the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman Division.

But George’s life would change in 1975, when he drove the Pete Hamilton built kit car – a Vega wagon. Winning on Friday night at Westboro Speedway then again on Saturday at Seekonk Speedway was the norm for George in the late ‘70s.

George was unstoppable in the Vega wagon and in 1980, NASCAR outlawed the car. George then drove the Mello Yellow modified and in 1985, he joined the Mini-Modified circuit, now known as the Pro-4 Modifieds. In a racing career that lasted over 40 years, Savary spent the last 16 seasons on the Pro-4’s.

Savary earned track championships at Norwood Arena, Westboro Speedway, Riverside Park Speedway during his career. He was also a 3-time Pro-4 Modified series champion.

Other southern New England tracks where George visited victory lane over the years include Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.
