Nokie Fornoro

Competitor
CLASS OF 2016

Born in Danbury, CT, Nick “Nokie” Fornoro Jr. began racing in 1974 and lasted until the 2009 World Series event at Thompson Speedway, when he won the NEMA Midget race in his last career start. In those 36 seasons, Fornoro won over 150 races (on both dirt & asphalt) in multiple types of cars, including midget, TQ midgets, mini-modifieds, super modifieds and sprint cars.

Fornoro teamed up with Mike Scrivani for the 1981 season and although they missed 9 races in the 21 race NEMA schedule, Nokie won 10 of the 12 races they entered and finished 2nd in another. Despite the numerous DNS, the team earned enough points to take the NEMA championship.

Nokie was a 6-time ARDC Midget Champion, including 5 straight titles (1982-1986). He also won the prestigious Night Before the 500 USAC Midget race twice in his career (1985, 1987)

Victories came at 57 different tracks, including New England tracks like Star Speedway, Monadnock Speedway, Lee USA Speedway in NH, Westboro & Seekonk Speedways in MA, Devil’s Bowl in VT, Oxford Plains Speedway in ME and Thompson Speedway, Waterford Speedbowl & Stafford Speedway in CT.
