Sharkey Gaudiosi

A Waterbury, CT native, Fredrick “Sharkey” Gaudiosi owned the famous pink & white #44 and competed throughout southern New England from 1947 to 1972. He had an impressive list of wheelman pilot his cars over the years, including Billy Greco, Rene Charland, Gene Bergin, Ed Flemke, Bobby Santos, Moe Gherzi, Ted Stack, Ron Narducci and Bill Slater.

His biggest successes came with Greco, as they won 3 Modified Championships at West Haven Speedway (1955, 1956, 1958) and 3 more at Plainville Stadium. He also had an impressive run with Ted Stack at the Waterford Speedbowl, winning 14 races the Non-Ford title in 1960, then the next year won 14 Modified races and another track championship. In early 1960, Stack won 7 consecutive races between both divisions over a span of 4 weeks. Over the years, he also fielded cars at Thompson Speedway and Riverside Park. His cars were almost always Mopar powered machines.

Fred Gaudiosi passed away on December 2, 1976 at the age of 63.
