Salem, MA native Harold “Red” Cummings was a standout in the post-WWII Bay State Midget Racing Association circuit. He was also successful in the United Car Owners Associations midget circuit, racing against the likes of Johnny Thomson, Bill Randall, Rex Records and Bill Schindler.

Cummings then switched over to stock cars in 1948 with continued success, including a Modified Championship at Norwood Arena in 1948 and career wins at Seekonk Speedway, Westboro Speedway and Riverside Park Speedway. He won the 24 hour marathon at Norwood Arena in 1949 and almost repeated in 1950 before losing a axle late in the event.

He raced into the late 1950’s up and down the east coast before hanging up the helmet for good. He eventually retired to Florida. Cummings passed away on July 1, 2010 at the age of 87.
