Brad Lafontaine

Car Owner, Crew chief, Car Builder
CLASS OF 2019

Rhode Island native Brad Lafontaine built his first race car when he was 16 years old for Archie Sherman at Seekonk Speedway in 1977. He stepped away from the sport soon after but by the 1980’s he was involved with Late Models, Pro Stocks & SK Modifieds at all 3 Connecticut short tracks.

At the suggestion of Mike Stefanik in the late 1980’s, Brad made the jump up to the NASCAR Modified Tour. He would pair up with Jeff Fuller late in the 1989 season, winning at Martinsville Speedway that October. In 1992 they won the series championship after finishing runner-up to the title in 1991.

Ted Christopher drove Brad’s #66 SK Modified to back-to-back championships at Thompson Speedway in 1988-1989. 20 years later, Brad was the crew chief for Christopher during his 2008 NASCAR Modified Tour Championship season.

He was the crew chief for Mike Stefanik last full season on the NASCAR circuit in 2013, which included Mike’s last career win at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Lafontaine also worked with drivers Mike Ewanitsko, Wayne Dion, Rick Fuller, Chris Kopec, Keith Rocco and Tommy Barrett over his long career in short track racing.

Brad was also well known as a parts dealer. His Northeast Race Cars was a fixture at southern New England short tracks until he sold his business after the 2019 season and retired from the sport.
