An imposing figure both behind the wheel and in the control tower, C.V. “Butch” Elms is synonymous with Bear Ridge Speedway. He won a total of 12 dirt track championships at Bear Ridge, Canaan Fair Speedway and Norway Pines collectively.

During his long career behind the wheel, Elms won over 135 feature wins. He won dirt & asphalt races at Can-Am Speedway (NY), Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Thunder Road Speedbowl & Riverside Speedway in Vermont and Lee USA Speedway, Canaan USA Speedway & White Mountain Motorsports Park in New Hampshire.

Elms became owner & promoter at Bear Ridge Speedway in 1989, carrying on the family tradition from father Chuck Elms who bought the track in 1972 from George Barber. Butch is not only the track owner, but the promoter & race director. He also promoted at Canaan Fair Speedway during the 2000’s.
