Born in Boston, MA, Dave Tourigny became one of the most successful car designers in modified racing history. Teamed with car owner Sonny Koszela, modifieds designed, built and maintained by Tourigny notched close to 200 victories. Their cars were called The Wood Chopper (#15) and the Log Roller (#10) after Koszela’s lumberyard.

His cars won the 1970 NASCAR Modified National Championship with Fred DeSarro and Stafford Speedway Modified Championships with Bugsy Stevens (1970, 1974) & Mike Stefanik (1986). He also won NASCAR Modified Tour Championships with Mike Stefanik in 1989 and 1991.

Dave’s equipment won at numerous New England tracks such as Stafford Speedway, Thompson Speedway, Riverside Park Speedway, New Hampshire Speedway, Monadnock Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Outside of New England, his cars took victories at Riverhead Raceway, Pocono Raceway (PA), Richmond Raceway (VA), Orange County Speedway (NC), Jennerstown Speedway (PA) and Oswego Speedway (NY). Tourigny-designed modifieds also scored 9 wins at Martinsville Speedway (VA) over the years.

Dave passed away on June 8, 2023 at 83 years of age.
