Ron Wyckoff was born in Pennsylvania and came to Connecticut in the early 1960’s. He started racing in the novice division at Plainville Stadium, but it wasn’t too long before he moved up to the premiere Modified division. He was a winner at Plainville and Riverside Park Speedway, where he won three straight Riverside 500‘s: 1974 with teammate Bobby Bard followed by back-to-back wins paired with Bob Polverari (1975-1976). He was also a steady competitor at Stafford, Thompson and Waterford.
Wyckoff was respected in the pits. He built a reputation as a driver who good on equipment, as evident by the list of top car owners he drove, including the Czarnecki Bros. #20, Ron Berndt‘s North End Auto Parts #54, and Billy Simons‘ Excavator Special #9. Also known for his success in long-distance races, most notably a 250 lap Riverside Park Triple Crown Series finale race in 1978.
Wyckoff retired from driving in 1983. He passed away on August 27, 2020 at the age of 80 after a long illness.
