Dick Beauregard was fiery personality and often ignited as many jeers as cheers with his aggressive driving style on the track. His home track was the New London-Waterford Speedbowl where he was a 2-time Modified Champion. He won his first title in 1952. He clinched the championship early so on the night of the last points race, the Speedbowl honored him prior to the night’s races as their new champion. He then got into a scuffle with Moe Gherzi during the feature that nearly led to a brawl between race teams.
He drove familiar Speedbowl cars like the Black Panther #1 and Bill Congdon’s #76 coupe. He won 44 Modified and 20 Non-Ford races during his career at the CT shoreline oval. Dick also won at Westboro Speedway
He won his 2nd Modified Championship in 1962 driving Walter Kensel & Lawrence Maffei’s #53 coupe to a dominate 14 win season. He then promptly retired after the season, eventually relocating to the west coast.
Dick Beauregard passed away on September 7, 2011 in Hesperia, CA at the age of 85.
