Mike Joy’s name is synonymous with American motorsports and one of the most beloved media personalities in NASCAR.
He got his start as an announcer at Riverside Park Speedway in 1970 while still in college. and soon after added Thompson Speedway to his work load. By 1975, he was also announcing and handling public relations at Stafford Motor Speedway. That same year, he was noticed by Ken Squier and began working at Motor Racing Network (MRN) as a freelancer, eventually become its co-anchor, general manager and executive producer.
In the 1980’s, Joy was announcing on broadcast television networks. In 1981, he was the lead broadcaster for ESPN’s first live NASCAR broadcast.
Mike also spent 15 years as a pit reporter for CBS before eventually being promoted to lap-by-lap announcer alongside Ken Squier. He also worked for TNN and TBS. He is probably most well-known as the lead anchor of Fox’s NASCAR coverage since 2001. He has been the television voice of the Daytona 500 since 1998 on CBS sports.
Mike Joy has also been inducted into the Riverside Park Speedway Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Eastern Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame in 2023.
