Midweek Madness

Seekonk Speedway first held an event called Open Wheel Wednesday in 2005. It featured only open-wheel cars such as modifieds and midgets, two types of cars that didn’t compete at the track on a weekly basis.

The event was anchored by an open competition 100 lapper for tour type modifieds that boasted a $10,000 winner’s purse. The mid-week show has consistently attracted the biggest names in modified racing. In 2014, the Modified 100 lapper became part of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series schedule. For the 2024 event, which was postponed to Thursday due to weather, boasted a $20,000 winner’s purse for the first time. Teddy Hodgdon scored the big payday after Brian Robie was disqualified in post-race tech.

Starting in 2025, the event showcased the American-Canadian Tour‘s annual Spring Glen 125 race and the Monaco Modifieds, which now called their race Midweek Madness. The MMTTS race was also increased to 125 in hopes to incorporate more tire & pit strategy to the race.

Matt Hirschman has won the modified race a record 6 times. 6-time NASCAR Modified Tour Champion Doug Coby is a 3-time winner. No other drivers have won the event more than once. Car owner Gary Casella has won the race twice with Ronnie Williams (2019) and Matt Swanson (2023) piloting his #25 car to victory lane.
