Oxford 250

The Oxford 250 was created by Oxford Plains Speedway owner Bob Bahre in 1974. In the inaugural race, 21 year old Joey Kourafas earned the win after race leader George Summers ran out of gas with 3 laps to go. It was originally a 200 lap race, but expanded to 250 laps in its second running. It has mostly been a Pro Stock race, although from 2007-2012 it was a Late Model race under ACT rules, yet not a points race for the ACT championship.

The Oxford 250 is one of the most prestigious stock car races in New England, attracting not only the biggest stars in the northeast, but also stars from NASCAR’s national series. Oxford 250 winners who also have won a NASCAR Cup Series race include Geoff Bodine, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Maine-native Ricky Craven.

Dave Dion, Ralph Nason, Mike Rowe and Travis Benjamin have all won the Oxford 250 three times. Nason won his in 3 consecutive years, while both Dion and Rowe have won the event in 3 different decades. Cole Butcher became the 6th different driver to win consecutive Oxford 250’s with his 2023 victory.
