Open Wheel Wednesday

Seekonk Speedway first held Open Wheel Wednesday in 2005. It featured only open-wheel cars such as modifieds and midgets, two types of cars that didn’t compete at the track on a weekly basis.

The event was anchored by an open competition 100 lapper for tour type modifieds that boasted a $10,000 winner’s purse. The mid-week show has consistently attracted the biggest names in modified racing. In 2014, the Modified 100 lapper became part of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series schedule.

Matt Hirschman has won the modified race a record 5 times. 6-time NASCAR Modified Tour Champion Doug Coby is a 3-time winner. No other drivers have won the event more than once. Car owner Gary Casella has won the race twice with Ronnie Williams (2019) and Matt Swanson (2023) piloting his #25 car to victory lane.
