Red MacDonald

Competitor, Car Owner, Track Owner
CLASS OF 2015

Red MacDonald’s lifelong association with auto racing started as a 12 year old wrenching on race cars. He first got behind the wheel competitively as a drag racer at Sanford Dragway in Maine.

As a car owner, he fielded cut-downs driven by the likes of Jim Martel & Don MacLaren and supermodifieds wheeled by MacLaren, Jim Cheney & Dave Thomas. With Thomas, he won the 1978 Star Speedway Classic.

Red was also part of Bentley Warren‘s Indy Car race team.

In 1986, he purchased Lee Speedway and renamed it Lee USA Speedway. With his wife Judy, Red operated the track for over 30 years before selling it to Norm Wrenn prior to the 2018 season.

Red’s son Eddie MacDonald became one the more accomplished drivers in the northeast, with multiple Oxford 250 wins.
